The oldest known oat grains are traceable to Egypt’s 12th Dynasty, around 2,000 B.C. However, the Egyptians did not value oats as highly as they did wheat and barley. They treated oats like weeds and did not cultivate them. A thousand years later, the first attempts of cultivation were made; still, they were not particularly appetizing. Both the Greeks and the Romans considered oats to be diseased wheat and fare for barbarians. Most oats were grown not for human consumption, but for animals.

However, when oat cultivation reached northern Europe, oats were embraced, and quickly became a staple of the diet -- particularly, in Scotland. Not only were oats better suited to the northern environment, than other grains, but their nutritional value and versatility allowed oats to be eaten in a variety of ways.

Dutch Caramel & Vanilla Superfood Bowl

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon ground chia seed
  • 2 tablespoons ground flax seed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • Cook all ingredients until oatmeal is at a porridge consistency
  • Top with a Dutch Caramel & Vanilla Rip Van Wafel

 


 
Birthday Cake Overnight Oats

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup Almond milk
  • 1 crushed up/ pieced birthday cake stroopwafel
  • Mix ingredients and place in refrigerator overnight 

 


 
Snickerdoodle Baked Apple Oatmeal Bowl

DRY:

  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 large apple, peeled and minced
  • 1 pieced snickerdoodle rip van waffle

 

WET:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon melted coconut oil
  • 1 medium banana, mashed
  • 1.5 cup unsweetened almond milk

  • Chocolate protein powder
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • ½  cup of blackberries
  • 1 pieced chocolate brownie wafel
